Tramping In Callaghans Ridge

Tramping In Callaghans Ridge
In the beginning of the morning at 8;50 we were ready to go on a cool tramp to callaghans ridge we we're going because of WPCA. I and three other people were in lee's car we were the first to leave the school. We got to a turn off at 9:27 and we waited for the others to arrive. When we were waiting we found some ice. My friends and I were smashing the ice with big rocks, it was fun.

Finally the others came and we were back on the road to Callaghans Ridge. On the way there it was freezing. I was curled up like a fluffy, furry fox. When we got to Callaghans Ridge we had to wait for the adults to drop their cars at the end of the track so we wouldn't have to walk back; that would be hard work, walking back up the hill.

When we were waiting for the adults we had to do a sound off. My number was seventeen.  When it was my turn to say my number I shouted it like I was possessed by a devil. When the adults came back we started to walk. I walked with Matthew my friend. I found a cool stick, it was really good at chopping things down..

One of my favourite things that I saw was this fat bird, it was a tomtit. Man it was fat! My second favourite thing on the track was a path down to a creek. Me and My friend Guy we went down. There was lots of clay and fresh water. I knew this because the water was coming from the mountain and it was really clear.  We picked a spot where it was running, we took a sip, man it was good!

My third favourite thing was that we could bring knifes so we made spears. I sharpened a flake off a big tree to a very sharp point then I found a stick with a big slot in the tip. I inserted the stick into the slot and got some rope and some vine and wrapped it around to make a holder so the spear wouldn't fall out. After that the spear was ready.

After we finished the tramp I was very sore. I liked how we were going up and down, and seeing things that I haven't seen before, like a giant fungus called bracket fungi. It was massive! I really enjoyed Callaghans Ridge. I recommend going there yourself.

Global Warming

Global Warming#save the polar bears Get it trending

Ko Lochie Rose tōku ingoa No Mawhera ahau. Listen up ladies and gentlemans and polar bears, global warming is a big issue and I am here to tell you why.

Global warming happens many ways, here is one. Global warming occurs when gas from plastic bottles and other objects produce water vapour, making the air warmer and melting the ice.

Global warming can be extraordinarily dangerous for many animals such as polar bears. The ice will melt, that means there will be no hunting places and polar bears will wander into towns and eat leftovers or break into shops to get food. They might get shot by people.

Global warming is also bad for us humans because if the ice melts in Antarctica and Greenland more water would go into the seas. This could raise the sea level by 70 meters or 230 feet. That's massive! So many countries would go under water. That would mean people would be evacuated into different countries. This would cause overpopulation and increase demand on food supplies.

This day many refugees are evacuating their countries because they don't feel safe. If global warming will happen probably twice as many people would have to leave their countries because of global warming. This would make it crowded, scarce for food and make even people homeless.

We can stop global warming by stopping us by making greenhouse gases. To do this we need to stop burning plastic bottles and plastic bags. Another way is by reducing, reusing and recycling. We could use electric cars and biofuel instead of using diesel or petrol this would have a massive difference because it would have less bad gases like Carbon monoxide in the air.

Global warming is a big issue that's why I did a speech about. If we don't do anything now our grand kids grand kids wouldn't have lots of things like proper homes and food because when global warming hits many big countries would go under like miami and a lot more countries. I hope you understand how bad is global warming and why we need to start recycling and reusing to prevent global warming.

Ski Trip

Porters
At 6:45 we were at school we got an arm band from Miss Martin my number was 6. I went in Phil's car with Guy, Madison and Poppy. On the way I spewed. It was disgusting!

When we got to Porters it was surprisingly warm. We went to get our gear and it took ages. We had to get ski boots and skis. After this we went to our lessons our instructor was really cool. After a while we finished our lessons. At the beginner slope I showed Ms Kemp [my teacher] my turning and stopping. After this she told me the password for the intermediate slope and then we went for lunch.

After lunch me and my friend Kieran  went to the intermediate slope. We didn't stop half way, we went to the top first. I was nervous so was Kieran. I went first, I did my turns properly and didn't crash but Kieran did, many times! After this we did the intermediate lots of times and Kieran crashed lots of times but not me, I only crashed once.

When I was coming down the intermediate Ms Kemp said I could go on the chair lift with an adult. I went up with Lee. It was scary when we got off. We started to go down, we had to do big turns across the mountain. I crashed many times! After a while I got the hang of it but then I crashed. We went to the intermediate from the advanced, it was easy.

In the afternoon we gave our gear back to the ski shop and got in the car and left for the West Coast. After about two hours we finally got to Greymouth. I really enjoyed skiing because it was good to bond with your friends and to have some fun.
